Project Aethertech Sentinel

  • Project Aethertech Sentinel was created on the 35th of Dracoria, 1200 A.A.. Despite being in an alliance for the past 15 years, Humans had never visited the Hydromancers, believing their entire city to be located below sea level. When the truth came to light, a great feast was held within the stunning mountain ranges that concealed the City of Odyra.
  • It was here that Humans first learned of the magic warping that was commonplace in the daily lives of the Hydromancers. Much like how Humans use radios, the Hydromancers had developed tools to manipulate unseen wavelengths, forces that were, in essence, their magic. It was also here that the story took a darker turn, as Humans, ever hungry for power, sought not only to understand this "magic", but to perfect it.
  • Bringing home an Artifact gifted by the Hydromancers, who did not yet recognize Human folly, machines were created that could harvest this power. However, introducing a second magical type resulted in catastrophic failure, as the machines could not withstand the conflicting energies. Yet ambition is never content with limits, and a new idea emerged: what if a construct could change its affinity at will? What if a machine, guided by an artificial mind, could wield every form of magic known to Astracel? Thus, the vision of the Sentinel began to take shape.

Prototypes of Nigh

  • Before the Sentinel itself was created, three prototypes were constructed to test whether artificially recreated power could emulate the ancient Guardians of this world. These machines were later dubbed the Aethertech Guardians, often referred to as Ignis Viridis, Ignis Aureus, and Ignis Capriensis.

  • Prototype "Ignis Viridis"
  • Viridis was modeled after the Forest Guardian, said to control and protect the upper roots of Tentar Imbal. Its sacred flames burn away rot and decay while restoring the land itself. The only Race known to approach it are the Shaoul Varon, who are believed to have been born from the same Core that birthed this beast, hidden deep within the subterranean layers of the Tree it protects.

  • Prototype "Ignis Aureus"
  • Aureus was designed after the Mountain Guardian, often seen roaming the ancient structures of the old world. It is said that those who damage these relics will be confronted by this beast. Should it deem the destruction intentional, it will burn away the offender's life force, returning it to the statues it protects, balancing the branches of past and future time upon its crown while preserving the present.

  • Prototype "Ignis Capriensis"
  • Capriensis was inspired by the Ocean Guardian, a figure well known in ancient tales of the fallen Dynasty of Murok Nad'Il. It is said to have been created by Puril, Goddess of the Underworld. Likewise, within the Kyrgozan faith, Stygarius, the dread Goddess of the Sea of Death is believed to have tasked this beast with guarding the entrance to her domain, Ma’ru. According to an Elior colleague, during the battle of Malvata and its people, this beast appeared as Malvata itself, and the famed Tervine Stone were seen sinking toward the Sea of Death.

  • Succession
  • When these machines proved successful, the path to the Sentinel was clear. Designed to surpass them all, the Sentinel was constructed as a towering humanoid machine, its frame lined with multiple radiant cores formed from tervine shards discovered over time. Each core could shift between magical frequencies, granting mastery over countless powers. However, a fatal flaw was overlooked: should the Sentinel ever become sentient, only the complete destruction of all its cores would end it permanently.

Destruction

  • It was here that the story truly darkened. During an experiment to measure its full capacity, the Sentinel unleashed a torrent of energy so vast that it scarred the Savaloria Region, killing hundreds, if not thousands, of Estalons, along with several Eldranes caught in the vicinity. In response, the Hydromancers condemned the project as an affront to both nature and morality. After heated debate, the Inser Foundation intervened, and the project was officially shut down.
  • During the destruction of the facility, one of the control programs malfunctioned, releasing command over the Sentinel and the other Ignis prototypes. While the official statement claims that the Aethertech Sentinel and all related projects were destroyed, the truth is far more uncertain. To this day, stories continue to surface from those who swear they have seen it wandering the lands of Astracel.
